Get me a harp and a halo cuz I've died and gone to heaven! Visited this blast from the past today and could hardly stand up as the aroma of coffee and sugar slapped me in the face. Nearly caused my knees to buckle. Do you still have the Rose, I asked one of the three sweet, smiling ladies running the joint. Yes, and it's the special of the day! A Rose and pot of 1950s-style coffee AND a double chocolate cake donut for the four-year-old chocoholic with me--all for three dollars and change?! What year is this? The rose is HUGE, a multi-petaled sugar-glazed wonder the size of your hand with a delicate pink something sweet at its center. If you haven't been to Donutland, you haven't lived. Cash only! Another quaint nod to decades gone by. Couldn't resist taking a Rose to go...no way to adequately explain it, but if you want to experience a glimpse of heaven on earth, go get yourself one AND one of those sweet little pots of java. Oh, and a nostalgic shout-out to Jeremy K. A trip to your folks' Donutland on the Coralville Strip was something of a religious pilgrimage for my family for many years!

What a little hidden gem in Iowa made of icing, sugar and chocolate! Very friendly place that offers many different styles of donuts. Cherry chocolate is a must as it taste like fresh cherries and has huge chunks of chocolate in the dough. If you can stay they offer coffee in an adorable pot. You must make time to stop in for a donut or 12!

My parents owned the Coralville and Iowa City stores until Coral Ridge Mall came in. I have been living out west for about ten years, and I've yet to find a better donut than Donutland's. It's one of our must-do's every time we come to Iowa.

I drive out of my way to stop by and pick up donuts, and come to find out you're operating in the stone age - cash or check only. Come on!

Best donuts in town. Never have had an issue with the restaurant. The only possible complaint is that it is cash only.

It's not always easy to be a good mood in the morning, but Donutland was able to break the mold. The service was excellent, the people are friendly and the donuts are fresh and tasty. Sadly, too many donut/breakfast shops have become chains, and with their widespread locations have sacrificed quality and customer service for a "get 'em in and get 'em out" approach that leaves the consumer feeling frustrated and confused as to how the product paid for is justified by the cost - such is not the case at Donutland. This place is a holdover from a bygone era. My customers loved that I brought them this instead of Dunkin' and I will definitely be back the next time I am in town. Huzzzah for Donutland!

Is that a donut sign I see up ahead? Why yes...yes it is. So, at 1 p.m. on a wintery Saturday afternoon, an impromptu stop for a donut and coffee warmup and refuel. As expected, our options were somewhat limited, so I opted for the cake donut with chocolate frosting and coconut flakes with a side of mediocre coffee in a styro cup. Both were so-so. Based on steady stream of patrons (popping in to purchase donuts by the dozen), it's a popular stop at all times of the day. Note to self, next time ask what they have available in the kitchen. As a first timer, I didn't realize there were secret, fresh donuts in the back. Alas...learn from my mistake.

Don't accept credit cards, refused to serve us when we asked why they don't take cedit cards.

So far...there are NO good doughnut shops here in Cedar Rapids,Ia. I went here for doughnuts one time...2yrs ago.I went there 1st thing in the AM...got a huge 20$ variety to check it out....I could not believe they were so stale...sorry.I want a good doughtnut shop SOOO BAD...but this is not it. Nothing like Shippley's Doughnuts down in Ft.Worth,Tx! :-( Since then I hear Dunkin' Doughnuts has come to town here...too bad they are on the north side of town....

One of the few places to get good cake donuts.

The donuts don't taste fresh and the cashier looks like a meth addict who just stumbled from jail. The first and last time we went, there were donuts in the back room. Shelves and shelves of donuts in the back room. I asked for a sprinkled chocolate donut which I could clearly see in the back room. The cashier told me there were non available. I don't think they make their donuts fresh. Donuts certainly don't taste fresh. Only accept cash. It's like Cedar Rapids is still in the dark ages. If the cashier looked like a meth addict with tattoos all over and the donuts were outstanding, well that is pure Portland, OR. style. Unfortunately, not the case here.

Best place for donuts! Going to Donutland before school are some of my favorite, and earliest, childhood memories. WAY better than any Krispy Kreme (or however you spell it). Sadly, I don't think many remain after all these years though. I'm not a fan of their breakfast sandwhiches. Microwaved eggs with american cheese, I beleive. Donuts are to die for though!!!

  • Pete C.

Their doughnuts are okay but not great. Here's my two issues with this place. Of the 25 different kinds they offer, they're often out of at least half of them. And it's not that they're sooooo good they sell out really fast, its just they don't make enough. I went in at 9:30 in the morning on a Saturday and they're out of sprinkle donuts; in fact they only had maybe 8 varieties out of 20+ left. Really? My second issue is that they only take cash. Its 2013 people, who the hell doesn't take visa? I'm being generous giving this place 3. Get a credit card machine and stop running out of donuts.

What to have for lunch.....what kind of healthy lunch can I find around here...KFC isn't healthy....Mexican makes my skin angry...Donutland!! Perfect!! Just the right amount of Kate Safeness mixed with Deliciousness. I told mysef that I was going to get a sandwich at the deli or maybe some soup. I didn't fall for it though. I ordered 1 cherry doughnut and 1 vanilla and reassured myself that since they are smaller than a sub sandwich they must be better for me. I ate half of each for lunch, what a healthy meal. I pulled into the parking lot and saw a sign on the door letting you know before you even got out of your car that they only take cash or checks. I'm always glad for advanced notice since I usually don't carry much cash with me. Sadly, I fear I will be back to Donutland more often than I should.

Donutland! MMM I love dough nuts! And Donutland has a wide verity of dough nuts and they are made fresh daily and they are so good! Plus they are almost always cheaper then Casey's general store and there not day old (which Casey's packs up yesterdays unsold dough nuts). I pick up a dozen from time to time to take into work and I grabbed 2 dozen for tomorrow (my Friday)! I'm already ready for the weekend! These dough nuts will start my day and hopefully my coworkers day off on the right step! Donutland is a cash or check only business!

I love Donutland and they are a must for our tailgates in Iowa City in the fall. The bear claws, apple fritters, and fruit pastries are amazing and I love the chocolate and cherry doughnuts. Donutland used to be a franchise that you could find all across the state of Iowa, but this is one of the very few left in operation. If you're a doughnut fan and in the area, it's a can't miss.

  • Jessica W.

Yum yummy yum! These are just about the only donuts I will eat and everyone goes nuts when I bring them into work or have them for family on the weekends. Try the cherry (it is blood red, but don't let that scare you off!), the orange, old fashioned sour cream, coconut crunch, traditional glazed, or if you're very lucky at the right time of year, the apple spice. So good! And the prices are ridic. You can get a dozen donuts for about 6 bucks. And the place hasn't changed, not even a little bit, since I was a kid. Nostalgia, good donuts and good prices. Staff can be crabby sometimes but usually not too bad :) Cash or Check only!

I've lived in CR for decades but never been inside Donutland before today. That's not to say I've never had their donuts. Sorry to say that I don't share the unbridled enthusiasm others have for their donuts. I prefer the fluffier yeast donuts that the former Danish Maid Bakery used to make. I met a friend here for lunch today. He ordered the "Seasonal Egg Salad" on a croissant, which they promoted on their menu. I was surprised to watch the server open an institutional sized bucket of Egg Salad. So much for homemade, although he said it was decent. I had the DL Club on a wheat sub roll. The bread was store bought, just like you would find on the shelf at Fareway. The toppings were fairly limited, just the basics and no hot peppers. The sandwich tasted like what you expect if you bought all packaged ingredients and make it yourself; dry & dull and not much on flavor. Let's just say Jimmy John's has nothing to fear. Donutland does have a loyal following however with several tables of retired friends getting together (maybe since 9:00 AM) for coffee and donuts. They seem to be stuck in the 70's here, remaining the same while the world (and tastes) have changed around them.

Friendly service. The old fashion chocolate is good. Note: cash only stated clearly on the door when you enter. The glazed raised is unpalatable. It was one of the few times I couldn't finish any type of food. I have the motto of "As long as it's not alive and kicking I'll eat it. Even if it's alive as long as it is a quick kill I'll still try it". This was the first time I just couldn't force the doughnut down my throat. My basic test for a doughnut place is one old fashion and one glazed raised since they are the gold standard of a doughnut shop. A good doughnut shop should be able to make both well. Since this place can make an old fashion but not a glazed raised I gave it a low rating. Basically, if one stumbles by and is jonesing for a doughnut this is a quick fix. Actually thinking about it, go to Casey's Gas Station/Convince store for better doughnut.

I haven't had donuts like this since I was a kid. They are made fresh, and the texture/taste can't be beat by the national chains. The price is extremely reasonable, plus the option of a personal pot of coffee is ridiculously awesome.

  • Jared C.

The best donuts in Cedar Rapids. Puts Casey's donuts to shame. The flavored donuts are the best (Cherry is my favorite)! I've never tried any of their coffee or other menu items, but the donuts can't be beat!

i thought donutland was obsolete until hoy when i was not able to drive down 42nd street and was trying hard to figure out how to get to where i'm goin with a closed street ahead of me and not one detour sign to be found. i thanked the detour sign gods and realized i was on the path i'm spose to be on and what lies ahead is a cake donut and possibly maybe (most likely) a blueberry one too. (and a chocolate cake donut too.) (and coffee.)(and a cinnamon roll.) well- the counter service was a crabby ol bitch and i swear she purposely smashed my selections before placing them in the bag (the way i will smash her face- should she be there the next time i feel the need for a stale old technicolor blueberry donut).
